A partnership of local chefs, restaurateurs, small businesses and community organizations (SOMCAN, West Bay, United Playaz), launched the project and successfully raised over $149,000 from 1,314 donors, feeding 12,966 Frontline Health Workers & Scientists, & Communities Battling Covid-19. The project also amplified the alarming rate of Filipino healthcare workers being impacted by COVID-19 early on in the pandemic, garnering attention from the New York Times, amongst other news outlets. One study, cited by the New York Times, found that of nurses who died from Covid-19, Filipinos accounted for almost a third of them-- despite only making up 4% of nurses nationwide.
