Celebrate Filipino-American History Month

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - October 1, 2015 - In celebration of over 400 years of Filipino-American history, non profit organization Filipino Food Movement (filipinofoodmovement.org) has created a directory of restaurants and pop ups across the nation that will be hosting special events celebrating Filipino cuisine. Expand your palette and vocabulary to more than just lumpia and adobo this month, and discover why Filipino food is rising in popularity throughout the nation.

"It is in a Filipino's nature to show their care for another through food, and this month-long event will be a reflection of that. October is an important time for Fil-Ams. Collaborating with chefs from the Bay Area and across the nation shows there is a passion for Filipino cuisine outside of the Philippines. We are sharing our pride and passion and invite everyone to join us!” - Joanne Boston, Vice President of the Filipino Food Movement

Two notable Bay Area restaurants participating in the month long celebration include The 162 year old historic 7 Mile House and the Sunset’s destination for craft beer, Social Kitchen and Brewery.

7 Mile House, located in Brisbane, is celebrating cuisine of the Philippines with a special lineup of guest chef's all cooking their favorite Filipino inspired dishes during their weekly event 'The Chef's Table', where a 'hood famous' chef is invited into the kitchen bringing the community together for a lively night of dinner, drinks, and entertainment.

Social Kitchen and Brewery, located in San Francisco, is the Sunset district's destination for locally brewed craft beer. To celebrate Filipino-American History month they are combining what they do best, brewing fresh beer on site, with the rich flavors of the Philippines. Award winning Brewmaster, Kim Sturdavant, will recommend beer pairings for each dish on the special menu, complementing the rich flavors of Filipino cuisine.

7 Mile House was established in 1853 as a stagecoach stop during the Gold Rush and evolved into the family restaurant, sports bar, and live music venue it is today. The menu includes a unique mix of American, Filipino, and Italian food. Located in the San Francisco Bay Area for over 160 years, it is the only mile house left standing in its original location and boasts a colorful history, from its days as a brothel and speakeasy during Prohibition to an infamous “gambling den” frequented by bikers and truckers in the 1980s. For more information, visit 7milehouse.com

Social Kitchen & Brewery is the Sunset District’s destination for locally brewed craft beer in San Francisco. Offering contemporary comfort food, inventive cocktails, and 18 draft handles it is also the home of award winning Brewmaster Kim Sturdavant. For more information, visit socialkitchenandbrewery.com
