Scape Martinez is an artist, writer, and educator, recognized as the author of the international best seller, “GRAFF: The Art and Technique of Graffiti”. Scape was born in Newark, New Jersey to Puerto Rican immigrant parents, and moved to the San Jose, Bay Area in the 1970’s, where he currently resides. His career as a graffiti artist began in the late 1980’s and expanded over the years to include abstract paintings, and murals. An active member of the community, and an advocate for arts education, Scape presents workshops and speaking engagements to young adults and working professionals, discussing his unique perspective on art and creativity . He is also a founding partner for start up, TapSmack (www.tapsmack.com), and his own design firm, Real Smart Studios (www.realsmartstudios.com). Scape’s second book “GRAFF 2: Next Level Graffiti Techniques” will be published in 2011.
