more than words

I’ve been working on putting together a workshop to teach high school students the basics of Public Relations and Marketing.  Long story short… Mr. Concordia’s class at Balboa High School in SF, has helped me process the lesson plan by developing my presentation with them.  In return, I hope the students were able to get some insight on the business of PR and Marketing.

Below are definitions to a few words you should know as well to understand the basics:

Target Market – A specific group of people you want all your marketing decisions to be focused on.

Demographics – Statistics that describe a population in terms of personal characteristics like age, sex, income, religion, and ethnicity.

Psychographics Study of consumers based on their lifestyle, and the attitudes and values that shape it.

Marketing – Process of developing, promoting, and distributing products in order to satisfy customers’ needs and wants.

Public Relations – Any Activity designed to create goodwill toward a business.

Brand – A name, design, or symbol that identifies the products of a company or group of companies.

Product Positioning/Placement – The efforts a business makes to identify, place, and sell its products in the marketplace.

Promotions – Any form of communication a business or organization uses to inform, persuade, or remind people about its products and improve its public image.

Publicity – Creating demand for a business or product by placing news about it in publications, radio, television, and the Internet.

Advertising – The nonpersonal presentation and promotion of ideas, goods, and services paid for by an identified sponsor.

I definitely have a long way to go before the workshop is where I want it to be, but I’m determined to make this happen, and I have an amazing community of artists, educators, and students – to reach out to for guidance, support, and inspiration.

We’re going to have to figure out how we can get you doing a workshop at the center. Holla at me. I’m doing programing and site coordination.
