all up in my blogosphere

Definition of a blog – A frequent, chronological publication of personal thoughts and Web links.Jorn Barger on December 17, 1997. The short form, “blog,” was coined by Peter Merholz, who jokingly broke the word weblog into the phrase we blog in the sidebar of his blog Peterme.com in April or May of 1999. This was quickly adopted as both a noun and verb (“to blog,” meaning “to edit one’s weblog or to post to one’s weblog”).” (wikipedia.com) more blog info here

The term “blog” comes from the fusing of two words – web + log = blog

People have lost their jobs, been sent to jail, faced law suits, and their lives threatened by this fairly new form of journalism/public diary entries. Blogging has made others famous, given lives a sense of purpose, created outlets for independent news and information to be distributed, and new words are being added to the dictionary. The revolution will now be blogified!

About a year ago I was unsure of how to go about setting up a blog and how it functioned, and even attended a workshop at my job for clarification and a deeper understanding on how to use this new form of communication and all the etiquette’s, terms, and what have you’s involved in blogging. Yes, it’s that deep…

Needless to say, one year later… i get it! and I’m ready to make my fashionably late entrance into the blogosphere and join my “bloghood” (definition – a collection of local blogs – i didn’t make that up) here in the Bay Area, with iLL-Literacy and other bloggers we find along the way, for the purposes of hopefully NOT getting fired, sued, or stalked, but mostly cause i know there are other artists, managers, publicists, etc. going through the same experiences.

Even though we never really learn from the mistakes of others, and usually have to fuck up ourselves to finally get it (ok, maybe that’s just me…), we can at least share stories, tips, and advice to make the lessons less painful, and celebrate in the success of living each day with passion and purpose.

I’m excited to start the new year with an outlet for sharing what I go through as a publicist, manager, consultant, promoter, writer, friend, and whatever else comes my way as a woman in the entertainment industry. Playing a supporting role in the lives and careers of the artists i work(ed) with in the past, present and future IS a glamorous job, regardless of the late nights, and stressful hours in between. Because every time a song is recorded, a poem is written, a performance is well received, or an album is bought, i get to shine too.

“i shine, you shine…”

(disclaimer – I don’t know it all, so make sure you do your own research and take my blog posts with a grain of salt… these are MY experiences taken from my point of view.)
